The Uniformed Firefighters Association (UFA) is the largest firefighters union local in the world, representing New York City firefighters, fire marshals, marine engineers, pilots, and wipers. The New York State Supreme Court Officers Association (SCOA) represents over 1,400 uniformed court officers throughout the five boroughs of New York City as well as Westchester, Rockland, Putnam, Orange, and Dutchess counties.
“These two unions union represent thousands of brave and dedicated men and women, many of whom live right here in Orange County,” Hoovler said. “To have their support of my candidacy is an honor.”
Hoovler has a long history of working cooperatively with law enforcement and emergency services personnel. In fact, he was named New York State Arson Prosecutor of the Year in 2002 while working as an assistant district attorney in the Orange County District Attorney’s Office. He has also earned a Federal Executive Board Teamwork Award, an FBI Award of Merit, a National Award of Achievement for Animal Cruelty, and a New York City Police Department Organized Crime Control Bureau Award of Merit.
“Mr. Hoovler has demonstrated a commitment to prosecuting arson and other crimes that affect firefighters,” said UFA Vice President James Slevin. “The Uniformed Firefighters Association and its members look forward to his work as Orange County District Attorney.”
The UFA and SCOA endorsements join support from unions representing law enforcement officers including the Orange County Deputy Sheriffs PBA, the Police Chiefs’ Association of Orange County, the NYS Union of Police Associations, and a number of municipal PBAs, and from unions representing firefighters, including the New York City Uniformed Fire Officers Association, the City of Newburgh Professional Firefighters Association, and the City of Middletown Professional Firefighters Association.
Hoovler is also the endorsed candidate of the Orange County Republican, Independence, and Conservative parties, allowing him to appear on three ballot lines in November.
Hoovler’s well-defined platform includes tailored investigations to tackle drugs and gangs in Orange County’s three cities, aggressive prosecution of fraud, pursuit of defendant rehabilitation, and increased communication with each municipality’s stakeholders, including elected officials, non-profits, schools, and law enforcement officials and rank and file.
Supporters – regardless of political affiliation – are encouraged to join the Hoovler campaign for a Mediterranean-themed end-of-summer mixer at El Solar Café in Newburgh on Monday, August 26 at 6 p.m. For more information visit http://www.davidmhoovler.com or http://www.facebook.com/davidmhoovler, or email .
